Our Partnership With Second Harvest: Fighting Hunger, Reducing Waste

It Has to Be Great—for People, Communities, and the Planet

At Weed Me, greatness isn’t just about our products—it’s about creating a lasting impact. Since 2022, we’ve partnered with Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization, to tackle two critical challenges: hunger and food waste.

The Issue: Hunger and Food Waste

A Dual Crisis Impacting People and the Planet

Every year, nearly 60% of the food produced in Canada goes to waste. Of that, 46.5% ends up in landfills, even though 41.7% could be redirected to feed families in need.

This isn’t just a missed opportunity to address hunger—it’s a significant environmental crisis. Food waste generates 124.5 billion pounds of greenhouse gases annually, accelerating climate change while millions of Canadians struggle to access nutritious meals.

Our Impact: Results That Matter

Creating Sustainable Change, One Meal at a Time

Through our partnership with Second Harvest, we’re scaling our efforts to rescue more food, feed more families, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Together, we’ve achieved:

  • 8,332 meals provided monthly to families across Canada.
  • Tons of surplus food rescued, preventing it from ending up in landfills.
  • Significant greenhouse gas reductions, equivalent to removing 17.3 million cars from the road.

Beyond Food Redistribution

Our partnership goes further than providing meals. Together with Second Harvest, we’re:

  • Rescuing food and redistributing it to families in need, turning waste into nourishment.
  • Supporting education, advocacy, and research to drive innovation and build sustainable systems.
  • Reducing environmental harm by preventing methane emissions from wasted food.

Through these efforts, we’re not just addressing immediate needs—we’re creating resilient, sustainable communities across Canada. Every meal brings us closer to a future where no food goes to waste, and no one goes hungry.
